Despite being away from our Inang Bayan, our more than 4 million kababayan who now call the United States their home, keep the Alab ng Lahi burning in their own ways.
And there are those among us who fan the flames of Filipino pride even further. Living testaments to the passion of keeping love of country, faith in our people, and pride in our race burning strongly are present in our community.
These Filipinos distinguished themselves by the palpable impact and concrete contributions they have made in promoting the interests and protecting the welfare of kababayan here in the United States and back home in the Philippines.
From preserving our Filipino culture and heritage, to promoting the Philippines as a tourism and investment destination, to coming to the succor of those in need back home—these are the people who ultimately enhance the lives of Filipinos.
In the face of daunting challenges, these kababayan, as exemplars of bayanihan, have risen to the occasion, bringing hope, joy, and well-being to those around them.
The Gawad Alab ng Lahi was conceived to honor this group of extraordinary men and women and the organizations that they lead and whose contributions have made a meaningful impact to the lives of our people.
The Philippine Consulate General is proud and honored to partner with the Hiraya Foundation for Filipino-American Heritage Preservation, Inc. in undertaking this initiative, which seeks to give recognition where it is due.
I hope that this will inspire more of our kababayan to stoke the flames of Filipino pride by demonstrating the best of our race in whatever they do. It is my dream to see the Alab ng Lahi radiate in the hearts of the 10 million Filipinos who represent our race in almost all corners of the globe.
Mabuhay ang Lahing Pilipino!
